20 years since TH COMPANY acquired MARCO technology

June marked 20 years since the acquisition of MARCO technology by TH COMPANY. This came after more than 30 years of cooperation between TH COMPANY and US-based firm MARCO (now no longer in business) under a licensing agreement for the manufacture of MARCO equipment. That agreement was key for the installation of MARCO equipment on European purse seine fleet.

Following its acquisition of MARCO, TH COMPANY began to serve tuna fleets all over the world and set itself the initial goal of expanding internationally, all the potential developed for the European fishing fleet in previous years.

To that end, the company decided to set up a team of technical specialists who could travel worldwide. The efforts of this team combined with the development of an effective network of agents enabled the company to offer high-quality locally based service anywhere in the world. The strategy soon began to bring in its rewards with the first awards of projects in Asia and South America, including the complete fitting out of the tuna vessels Franz and Hanna in 2005.

Once first achievements had been obtained, TH COMPANY decided to expand abroad. After extending its production facilities in Spain it began to open offices in key countries for the purse seine industry, such as Mexico, Ecuador, Peru and China. The company now has 9 facilities worldwide and serves more than 70% of the world's tuna vessels.

But none of this would have been possible without a policy of continual innovation. 3% of the company's annual turnover is earmarked for R&D&i. This has enabled it to improve its range of deck equipment, particularly in the installation of high-torque radial piston motors on its series WS-4XX purse-seine winches and the recent introduction of a super-compact winch model that provides the same power as larger units but occupies less space on deck.

New technologies have also been developed to help owners to operate their fishing vessels more efficiently. Cases in point include the new MARBOX monitoring system, the model W-1945KBT MARCO main boom topping winch and the HYDRAMARC high-efficiency hydraulic system. These new technological developments have given the MARCO brand back its initial reputation for innovation, which the US company had lost in its final years.

TH COMPANY can proudly say that MARCO is the world leader in fishing equipment, deck machinery and hydraulic systems for the fishing and shipping industries. And customers can rest assured that we are there for them, wherever they may need us.

We did it, we're still doing it and we'll continue to do it!
